Amsterdam Food Guide: Where to Eat What? 🍔🍪

Where to eat in Amsterdam? 🍔🍪 From breakfast to the famous cookies, from burgers to traditional Dutch flavors, we've put together our favorite places we tried for you. A food guide that will leave you hungry! :)
Can you really go to Amsterdam and not eat anything good? We don't think so! :) The city has so many great cafés, restaurants and sweet shops that while you're exploring, you can't help but wonder where to eat next.
We've gathered the places we tried, loved, and even want to visit again on our Amsterdam trip. We've put together a full list, from breakfast and burgers to famous cookies and traditional Dutch flavors. And let's say it upfront: every place on this list comes from our own experience. Let's get started! :)
- Bakers & Roasters | A Great Amsterdam Breakfast We chose Bakers & Roasters for breakfast because its high ratings caught our attention. And we're so glad we did! The portions are quite big, the food is delicious, and overall we were very happy with our breakfast experience. It's not one of those places where you have a small bite and leave. The plates that arrive at your table are really filling. :) One small warning, though: the place is very popular, so you should expect to wait. Our advice is to book ahead if you can. You don't want to be waiting at the door first thing in the morning.

- Cannibale Royale & Maijard Smash Burgers | Good News for Burger Lovers! If you love burgers, you could get a bit lost in Amsterdam, because there are really great options! We tried burgers at Cannibale Royale and Maijard Smash Burgers. Both were quite successful, but if we had to pick a favorite, it would definitely be Maijard Smash Burgers. If you especially love smash burgers, you must try this place. It became our favorite burger spot in Amsterdam. Cannibale Royale is also very good, but Maijard has a special place in our hearts. :)

- Van Stapele Koekmakerij | Don't Leave Without Trying That Cookie! Now we've come to one of my favorite topics... cookies! But we're not talking about just any cookie. Picture one with a perfectly baked outside and white chocolate oozing from the inside, one you want to keep eating with every bite. That's exactly what Van Stapele Koekmakerij is! The place's thing is that it makes only one kind of cookie. And believe me, they don't need any other kind. :)) It's one of Amsterdam's most famous sweet stops, and there's usually a long line in front of it. Did we wait? Yes. Was it worth it? Absolutely! I'll even give you a tip: buy a few extra and stock up at home. You can keep them in the freezer for about two months. Warm them up whenever you're craving one. (Even as I write this, I'm craving one again.)

- Winkel 43 | An Apple Pie Break Apple pie is one of the Netherlands' famous treats. If I had to recommend just one place for it in Amsterdam, I'd say Winkel 43 without a second thought. Our order was very simple: apple pie, coffee, and whipped cream. But sometimes happiness can really be this simple. :) The pie is very tasty, and when combined with the whipped cream, it makes a wonderful trio. Be sure to add it to your list for a sweet break in Amsterdam.

- Fabel Friet | Potatoes Like No Other... You'll hear plenty of recommendations for french fries in Amsterdam. We tried both Fabel Friet and Manneken Pis. But friends, Fabel Friet is on a whole other level! Be sure to try the combination of the parmesan and truffle mayonnaise sauces in particular. When you add that duo on top of the potatoes, you'll understand why everyone talks about them. We tried Manneken Pis too, but our hearts went to Fabel Friet. Honestly, don't overthink it, just spend your money at Fabel. 🫠

- Hans Egstorf | You Can't Skip the Stroopwafel! Of course, you can't leave the Netherlands without trying a stroopwafel. For that, we chose Hans Egstorf and were very happy with it. The caramel filling between the thin waffle layers is wonderful on its own. But another reason we loved this place is the shop itself. It's so lovely and full of character that you'll understand what I mean as soon as you step inside. It's both a sweet break and a great discovery. :)

- De Hollandse Tulp | Traditional Dutch Flavors We decided to step beyond burgers and sweets and experience Dutch cuisine. Honestly, we didn't know much about De Hollandse Tulp before going. We were also pretty hungry, so we just sat down. :)) We tried the bitterballen. I went with the Stamppot Zuurkool. It's a very filling dish with mashed potatoes and meat. We enjoyed the flavor, and we also loved the ambiance of the place. It had a warm, friendly feel that didn't seem too ambitious, but you enjoy sitting there. If you want to try traditional Dutch dishes in Amsterdam, you can add it to your options.

- Ter Marsch & Co | My Favorite Spot! 🌷 Some places you love the moment you walk in the door. Ter Marsch & Co was exactly that for me. The design, the décor, the flowers, the overall atmosphere... It's like walking into a little flower garden. And it's not just beautiful to look at; the food and cocktails are also quite good. It's definitely my favorite place in Amsterdam. If a place has great atmosphere, food, and cocktails, that's enough for me. If you want a lovely dinner and a pleasant time out, make sure you check it out.

- Nnea | Pizza Break 🍕 Our pick for pizza is Nnea! We found it really excellent. If you want pizza in Amsterdam, be sure to give this place a try. It's become one of the places we'd love to revisit on our list.
